What to know
The plain facts about how RoleTrek keeps your material, and what it cannot do for you.
Three things to know first
One person, the administrator, runs this site. There is no successor, so if they are away and you are locked out, you wait.
Your passkeys and your key file are the only ways to open your private material. If you lose all of them, it is gone for good and nobody can get it back.
If you die, your account is not handed to anyone.
What is sealed and what the server can read
The administrator runs the server and the database. Your private material is sealed in your browser with a key the server never sees, so a copy of the database shows only scrambled bytes.
A small amount of data stays readable so the site can work, such as your name and your settings. Readable data is protected from outsiders and not from someone who takes over the running server.
The exact list of readable fields is on the page What the server can read.

Which passkey stores open your private material with one touch
Some passkey stores can open your private material with one touch, and some can only sign you in. The list below is kept up to date.
- iCloud Keychain (iOS 18 and later, macOS 15 and later)Works
- Google Password ManagerWorks
- Windows Hello, after the February 2026 update, with a current Chrome, Edge or FirefoxWorks
- 1PasswordWorks
- Proton PassWorks
- BitwardenPartial
- Microsoft Password ManagerFails on sign-in
- DashlaneReturns nothing
- NordPassReturns nothing
The key file check
The site asks every 30 days for proof that you still hold your key file. Nothing is uploaded: the file is read in your browser.
What rescue can and cannot do
An administrator can restore sign-in for you after ringing the number you gave. An administrator can never open sealed data, and cannot make a passkey for you.
What the administrator sees
The administrator sees machinery and never content: which jobs ran, how long they took and what they cost, not what your letters or notes say.
If you die
If you die, your account is not handed to anyone.
The pass-on list
Names come and go on the pass-on list, so who is on it today may not be who is on it next month.
